At the very beginning of the 20th century, when architect Dušan Jurkovič arrived in Luhačovice, the town was still more of a large Moravian village than a European spa resort of significance. The spa tradition already had more than a century of history behind it, but both the spa and the town itself still had a rather modest appearance.
Dušan Jurkovič, together with a number of other architects, thus faced a challenging task — to transform a small Carpathian town into a world-class spa. Alongside Jurkovič’s fairy-tale-like buildings, one can also find functionalist works by Bohuslav Fuchs, as well as a series of boldly designed guesthouses, villas, and public buildings, culminating in the construction of the colonnade and the elegant Vincentka Hall, designed by Oskar Poříska.
